This table gives the adjusted Price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of the S&P 500 (www.multpl.com) and the one using actual GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) earnings as presented in the financial statements of the companies that make up the S&P 500.
The adjusted ratio is generally presented in the media and on investment platforms using non-GAAP earnings that are adjusted for elements deemed non-recurring by the management teams of these companies and stock-based compensation.
The S&P/TSX ratio also uses actual earnings of the constituent companies.
