Our Services

The Difference with McLean Capital

1. A different approach, inspired by the philosophy of Warren Buffett and other great entrepreneurs, focused on business fundamentals rather than standardized strategies that cannot differentiate themselves because of structural reasons.

2. We are a licensed portfolio manager regulated by the Autorité des marchés financiers. Your money is therefore managed directly by us, in Canada. We are not mutual fund distributors (with the fund managers often based in the United States).

3. You will likely save significantly on fees, which can have a meaningful impact on your long-term results.

Our Portfolios

We offer a comprehensive range of investment solutions, tailored to your objectives and investor profile.

Balanced Portfolio

  • A portfolio combining equities and fixed-income investments (generally more stable), where security selection and weightings are determined by your portfolio manager.

  • The equity portion may be fully managed by the McLean Capital team or partially invested in external index funds.

  • For both equities and fixed-income investments, capital preservation is a top priority at McLean Capital.

  • A disciplined balance between diversification and concentration.

100% Equity Portfolio

  • A portfolio invested entirely in equities.

  • Portfolio positions may be fully selected by the McLean Capital team or partially invested in index funds.

  • Capital preservation remains a priority, despite a higher equity exposure.

  • A disciplined balance between diversification and concentration.

Guaranteed Portfolio

  • A portfolio invested entirely in cash or cash equivalents.

  • McLean Capital actively seeks the most attractive interest-rate opportunities for its clients.

  • Can serve as a high-interest savings–style account, aiming to deliver returns superior to traditional bank savings accounts.

Traditional Portfolio

  • A portfolio similar to what most investors hold, but with significantly lower fees.

  • Broad geographic and sector diversification.

  • Built using a geographic allocation approach: a percentage in Canada, a percentage in the United States, and a percentage internationally.

  • The McLean Capital difference: this portfolio is constructed using low-cost, optimized index funds to efficiently replicate market exposure.

Our Internally Managed Funds

Unlike the vast majority of the investment industry, we offer investment funds that are fully managed in-house by our team. Your capital is therefore truly managed in Québec, not by large U.S.-based asset management firms (such as Fidelity, BlackRock, etc.). This approach also allows us to significantly reduce fees for our clients.

When appropriate, we may also invest in external funds on behalf of our clients.

  • Stock fund in which the positions and the weights are chosen by the investment committee of McLean Capital.

  • We do our own research and analysis.

  • The fund is usually invested in North American equities.

  • Equilibrium between diversification and concentration.

  • Our management fees may range between 0.2% and 1.5% per year (plus applicable taxes) of assets under management. Additional fees may also be charged by our partners, typically representing between 0.1% and 0.2% per year. A performance fee may also apply in years when returns are higher.

* Management fees decrease as portfolio size increases. All figures are presented on an annual basis. Industry fees are based on a broad aggregation of portfolio statements from various financial institutions and publicly available data. Fees charged by our partners typically range between 0.1% and 0.2% per year of assets under management.

As we are licensed portfolio managers, we are not obligated to place your money in mutual funds which charge you additional fees. It is important to consider management fees when managing your assets, as these can have a significant impact on returns.

Our clients' objectives are aligned with ours: the fee structure includes a performance incentive. Also, all the team members are invested in the Fund.
